What are the advantages of a power supply with active PFC?

Switching power supply is a kind of power supply that uses modern power electronics technology to control the time ratio of switching on and off to maintain a stable output voltage. Switching power supplies are generally composed of pulse width modulation (PWM) control ICs and MOSFETs. So what are the advantages of a power supply with active PFC? 1. For switching power supplies with the same rated power, active PFC switching power supply have a higher conversion efficiency than passive PFC products, because the former tends to have a higher level of workmanship, materials and structure, and the quality will be better, so active PFC switching power supply objectively saves electricity costs. 2. Active PFC power supplies are more adaptable to AC input voltage. Basically, the current wide-range power supplies adopt active PFC design, so that the active PFC power supply can still maintain a stable output under relatively large input voltage fluctuations. However, passive PFC power supplies have certain requirements for the stability of the input voltage, and the adaptable range of voltage fluctuations is often not as good as that of active PFC power supply, and may not work normally in an environment with large input voltage fluctuations. 3. Active PFC power supply can reduce the interference of the power supply to the mains grid, especially to avoid its impact on other electrical appliances when it starts suddenly. 4. Passive PFC is usually a large inductor, which is made of multiple silicon steel sheets wound with copper wire, so the volume of the power supply will be very large; while the active PFC is composed of an inductor coil and an IC control chip, and the power supply will be very large compact. 5. The active PFC power supply can meet the requirements of EN61000-3-2, class D (the highest level), and the harmonic pollution to other equipment is small. The passive PFC power supply may not even meet the EN61000-3-2, class A level. The harmonic pollution of other electrical equipment around will be very large. Powerld has been specializing in switching power supply for 30 years and has unique insights into many applications. Some coastal customer applications are close to the sea, and the salt fog in the air is very thick. If the switching power supply is not with conformal coating, many components will be corroded by the salt fog and fail. For such applications, our company will brush conformal coating for both sides of the switching power supply, by doing this, can greatly extend the life of the power supply. For example, VAT-UP300S-X-60L-A, used for LED display application. There are also some customer applications in supermarkets. Some supermarkets are dirty and there will be a lot of bugs. Bugs running into the power supply will cause some componnets to short-circuit and fail. For such applications, our company will brush conformal coating for both side of switching power supply, at the same time , Use heat shrink tubing or white glue to protect the components of the high voltage part to avoid short circuit failure caused by insect contact. These will be customized projects.
